A Weekend Of Firsts
---------------------------------
Eighteen cadets from 1066 (Hitchin) Sqn have just passed a weekend Young Lifesaver Plus First Aid course run at the Squadron’s headquarters.
The cadets were taught by a number of staff including Captain Barbara Gray (Ret’d) who is a fully qualified
The first day of the course involved theory work and learning about different symptoms and how to deal with them effectively. The cadets then put these newly learnt skills into practise on the second day with mock accident scenes where a team of cadets had to deal with each situation appropriately. The cadets even had to chance to use first aid makeup to create fake
wounds and injuries, adding to the realism.
All eighteen cadets on the course passed with flying colours. Cdts Holly Somerville and Adam Philpot were announced as best course cadets and were presented with a DK First Aid manual for their efforts. Course participant, Sgt Sam James commented, “The cadets did extremely well and showed great enthusiasm for the course itself. Our thanks go to Capt. Gray and her team for giving up their time to teach us one of today’s essentials skills”.
