This year’s Annual Awards Evening was held on Monday 25 April 2016. It was a special one for the squadron as it helped to mark the Squadron’s 75th Anniversary.
Parents and friends were invited, along with our previous Sector Commander, Squadron Leader Hutchinson RAFVR(T), our current Sector Commander, Squadron Leader Paul Weston RAFVR(T) and the Station Commander of RAF Henlow.
As usual, there were a plethora of awards to be given out and the decisions were extremely hard. To try and add some element of competition to the awards for the Cadets, the staff decided to open the ‘Cadet of the Year’ and the ‘NCO of the Year’ awards to voting. The rules were only that you couldn’t vote for yourself, you could only vote once and from a shortlist compiled by the years achievements.
The winners were:
Cadet of the Year: Cadet Kumar
Cadet NCO of the Year: Cadet Sergeant Taylor
After that excitement, thoughts turned to the rest of the awards:
Committee Shield (Awarded by Mr Worsley of the Civilian Committee): Flight Lieutenant Jones RAFVR(T)
Female Sports Cadet of the Year: Cadet Corporal Stephenson
Male Sports Cadet of the Year: Cadet Sergeant Hunt
John Nash Memorial Trophy (Awarded by Miss Nash): Cadet Burgess
Merriman Cup for Commitment: Cadet Burgess
Tom Young Trophy: Cadet Corporal Macer
Warrant Officers Shield: Cadet Gianfrancesco
Warrant Officers Cup: Cadet Corporal Gianfrancesco
Well done to all our Cadets for their efforts in 2015, the effort so far in 2016 is shaping up to make the awards in 2017 all the more interesting!
