Cadet Training Syllabus

Throughout your time as an Air Cadet, you will partake in lots of training some of which result in exams, which can grant you additional qualifications. As soon as you join you will take part in the training program. This will give you classification levels.

The classification levels are Junior Cadet (formerly known as Second Class Cadet this is automatically achieved on enrolment), First Class Cadet, Leading Cadet, Senior Cadet and Master Cadet. For each of these qualifications you will study a variety of subjects and once you have passed the exams you will receive the appropriate badge to sew onto your brassard. Once you have reached Master Cadet you also have the opportunity to complete an Instructional Methods (IM) course to learn how to effectively teach your fellow cadets the subjects you have just learned. Completion of the course will result in the presentation of your Instructor Cadet lanyard.

You will also have the opportunity to gain an additional 2 GCSE's just for completing the Classification training syllabus. As well as doing classification levels you can also partake in BTEC awards which grant you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs when you complete the course. The BTEC awards are the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services and the BTEC First Diploma in Music. Both courses are fully accredited by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO).

With the BTEC First Diplomas in Public Services and Music worth 4 GCSEs A*-C grade, and the Master Cadet Qualification worth 2 GCSEs A*-C grade, it is possible to gain 10 GCSEs by basically doing cadet activities on a weekly basis, along with a few workbooks. As well as the ATC experience, these qualifications are invaluable when applying for college, university or even writing a CV for a job application.
